WHAT WE DO:
The Roanoke Valley Tennis Association (RVTA) was first created in 1974 as a Community Tennis Association under guidance of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).The RVTA promotes and sponsors tennis in several ways:
- SOCIAL TENNIS: We coordinate many opportunities for adult social (non-advancing) tennis such as Friday Night Tennis, Women’s Wednesday Social Tennis; Men’s Summer League and Ladies Old Dominion Tennis Association (ODTA).
- YOUTH: We offers various clinics to teach youth how to play tennis as well as multiple Youth TennisBash’s throughout the year. The Youth TennisBash offers youths from the ages of 7-18 the opportunity to play and learn tennis in a tournament setting.
- MIDDLE SCHOOL: In the fall of each year, we sponsor a Middle School Tennis Program that allows Middle School youth to play tennis and represent their schools at this Club level sport.
- TOURNAMENTS: On an annual basis, we sponsor the Roanoke Valley Invitational Tennis Tournament (RVITT).
- SCHOLARSHIPS Each year the RVTA awards four scholarships to graduating high school seniors who made made significant contributions to their schools, communities and high school tennis programs.
LEADERSHIP:
The Roanoke Valley Tennis Association (RVTA) is comprised entirely of volunteers who are dedicated to planning and promoting multiple opportunities in the Roanoke Valley for adults and youth to learn and play tennis. An Executive Committee consisting of a President, Vice President, Past President, Treasurer and Secretary heads the organization. In addition, we have volunteers serving as At-Large Board Members.
RVTA supports our Local Area USTA League Coordinators who plan and run our USTA adult tennis leagues.
The RVTA relies heavily on volunteers to plan, promote and organize various tennis programs throughout our community. We are continually searching for additional volunteers to help with tennis programming so if you are interested in getting involved, please contact any of our RVTA Board members or complete our contact survey below. Your assistance will enable us to keep tennis strong in the valley for the next generation of players.
